Live Out Loud - University Talk

I realized SEGi College is a colorfully bustling place. There are events, promotions, charity drives, talks every other week. So, basically there are something to look forward to every time I step into the college, especially on Mondays.  Now, what I would like to share in this post in one particular event that was surprisingly informative. It was creatively named LOL > Live Out Lout - Uni Talk.

The reason why I attended this talk was mainly because it was made compulsory for Mass Communication students. I'm never a big fan of talks, even Oprah. The idea of sitting around listening to a group of people giving advises was never my cup of tea. But as it turned out, the talk was very interesting and informative.

This LOL - Uni Talk was held on the 7th of July and featured the prettiest faces of the Fly FM troopers, Zher, HunnyMadu and Prem Shanker , besides our first Malaysian Idol, the gorgeous Jaclyn Victor, Nazruddin Rahman , the newscaster extraordinaire, our famous funnyman, Harith Iskandar, Fara Aida, who is the Head of Brand Communication in Media Prima Radio Networks and Vickneswaran Kajindran, who is the Assistant Manager - Sales in Media Prima Radio Network as well.

So, this talk was mainly targeted for students who plan to venture into the Media Communication line. Most part of this talk was on how Naz, Jaclyn, Prem and Hunny got their foot in the entertainment business. Fairly enough, most of them quoted correct timing, lots of luck, of course talent and determination for them to be where they are presently. According to Naz, it takes a whole lot of determination and spunk to make it big in the Media line, because for the first few years, you will have to survive on Passion alone. Damn!

All the interview was informative although it got a little too draggy after a while. After all the talk about media, we were entertained by our very own Harith Iskander. I see why he is one of the best stand-up comedian around. He is seriously funny, effortlessly funny. The expressions, choice of words and the way he plays out a   scene was very hilarious. After his stand-up comedy session, we had a little Q&A Session with him too. Harith's wisdom clearly shows in all his answers and sometimes there are hidden message in his jokes albeit being presented in a very light-mannered way. I would like to share a few statement Harith casually made that I still remember at the back of my head.
" Men like to flip through channels, from start to end and settle with something they like, and keep moving on if they're not happy with what's shown ( referring to TV Channels ) but women are too loyal ; they will stick to one program, no matter how stupid it is, they will keep watching and then say , maybe the program will become better later"
" I'm a Eurasian and my wife is a Chindian. So, when we have kids, if they need to fill out forms, they will have to tick all boxes in the "Race" section. I hope one day, there are no more "race" fields in any form and every one of us are just Malaysians"
After the Q&A session, we had some lucky draws. I must admit, this was by far the most nerve-wrecking  lucky draw I have been to. Exclusive perfume sets, cameras and etc. But unfortunately neither me or anyone I knew got any of the draw. But I must say, it was a thoroughly an enjoyable , informative event and it was nice hearing advises from people whoa re actually in the industry. I sure hope we have many more such event in store in future.

Till then, thanks for reading and have a great day . adios ~
